Messor minor is a nicely coloured species that simply eats seeds, this is the reason why it is so easy to keep, but its development is particularely fast and above all, it doesn't need hibernation, that makes a serious contrainst less!

To keep it all the year at high temperatures will not interfere its development or health, in contrast!

You will notice an incessant activity and a rising laying from the queen. It can also get a gaster inflation after a year of grow, sign that laying is getting even faster.

Let's remind that ants adapt their population to the space you give them. If you don't wish your colony to take too much space, just let it in a nest of the desired dimensions.

It is a perfect species for beginners but advanced keepers will find in Messor minor all the qualities they were looking for. No need to buy expensive exotic species that are hard to keep!

Furthermore, we think that Messor minor can have several queens in a single colony.

Messor minor is black with a red head and thorax, in contrast of Messor barbarus which only big workers are coloured.

- Messor minor is a rare species but we do not pick it in a way that could harm the species and we respect the natural parks in which is prohibited to pick it.

- It is not protected either in extinction danger

- It is a French species that we also find in Africa and Canary Islands

To keep Messor minor in good conditions, you just need to keep the water reserves of the Ant Farm wet and to check that they always have seeds to eat. Also think to ensure the feeding arena clean.

A heat mat is perfect to keep the colony at the right temperature.
